PAIN IS NOT INVISIBLE - REPORT
Chronic Pain Australia - representing people living with pain - attended the Leaders Meeting in Melbourne on 17 September. We took the opportunity to report to the meeting - of about 70 leading pain clinicians, consumer advocates and others – what our Pain Project respondents have told us.

The Pain is Not Invisible project went live in September 2008, exactly one year ago. This project has delivered what is probably Australia’s largest collection of unstructured qualitative data about the lived experience of Australians in pain. Read more...
NATIONAL PAIN SUMMIT
The Australian National Pain Summit is a vitally important healthcare policy initiative. It aims to elevate awareness of the prevalence and economic cost of persistent pain to the community and address this issue through the development of a National Pain Strategy. A key aspect will be a focus on strategies in acute pain management that aim to reduce the risk of progression from acute to chronic pain.
The National Pain Strategy will be aligned with current Federal Government proposals for Health Reform and will aim to deliver major benefits to consumers, by making more effective, cost-effective and accessible healthcare solutions available to all Australians.
If you are an Australian living with chronic pain please let us know your story. Many of our members tell us about issues including
* being believed and being listened to
* The challenge of using medicines and their side effects
* Treatment by health professionals
* Finding a health professional that cares and listens to me
* being in a workers compensation system
* financial issues
* problems with employment
* family troubles
These may be important to you, and there may be other issues we need to know about.
Write to us at national.office@chronicpainaustralia.org with “my story” in the subject line.
We are currently analysing issues raised by our visitors to the Pain is Not Invisible Project (www.thepainproject.org).
